NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection
The 2026 edition features multiple major improvements designed to enhance fire safety, system reliability, and inspection standards. These updates showcase progress in fire safety technology and insights gained from real-world experience.
Key updates involve a new requirement for sprinklers in dwelling units that have been in place for over 50 years. These sprinklers must either be replaced with new fast-response models or pass a thermal sensitivity performance test to continue being used.
The edition also features updated restrictions on allowable antifreeze mixtures, promoting safer system performance and lowering the fire risk linked to incorrect concentrations.
Furthermore, Chapter 13 now includes new Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) requirements, offering more straightforward guidance for maintaining system compliance.
